Dry sponge

Squeeze the colors into your palette. Soak a dry foam rubber sponge, press it against the canvas, then quickly remove it. Repeat this. The textured look you get depends on the amount of paint you apply and the force you apply to the sponge. For best results, practice with the palette until you get the look you want.

Wet sponge

Wet the sponge, dip it in the paint, and give it a good stir so that the water on the sponge mixes well with the paint. Apply damp paint without pressing the sponge too hard on the canvas with a light hand.

Wet brush on a dry canvas

Wet your brush and use it to mix the water and paint on your palette until you get an even, clump-free liquid. Then apply an even layer to the surface.
